Children and young people

Safe development from the start

Children develop at an astonishing rate. Movement, balance, language, learning and emotions are all closely linked – and all controlled by the brain and nervous system. In some children, this development occurs at different rates. This may mean that the brain and nervous system need a little extra support to find optimal balance and function.

At Kvantumklinikken, we meet many families who want to understand why their child is struggling – and what can be done to support their development in a safe way.

Developmental challenges in children and adolescents

  • Delayed motor development (for example, with sitting, crawling, walking, grasping, or drawing)
  • Clumsy movements, poor balance, or frequent falls
  • Challenges with coordination, fine motor skills, or use of tools
  • Delayed language development, small vocabulary, monotonous tone of voice or echolalia (repetition of words or phrases)
  • Difficulty expressing needs and feelings, or sudden emotional outbursts
  • Little eye contact, social withdrawal, shyness, or the child preferring to play alone
  • Strong routines, rigid behavior or major reactions to change
  • Hypersensitivity to sound, light or touch – or vice versa
  • Trouble sleeping, restlessness, or difficulty calming down
  • Short attention span, difficulty concentrating, or impulsivity
  • Difficulty with learning, planning, or organizing
  • Small repetitive movements, fiddling or tickling
  • Difficulty with learning despite normal ability level
  • Difficulty with bladder control

Remember: One or more of these signs does not necessarily mean that the child has a diagnosis – but they may be an expression that the brain and body need a little better interaction. Early support can make a big difference to well-being, learning and security in life.

How can we help?

Functional neurology is about understanding how the brain works. Through thorough neurological examinations, we assess how the brain communicates with the body – and whether certain areas need targeted stimulation.

We map reflexes, motor skills, breathing, sensory integration and emotional regulation to get a holistic picture of how the child's nervous system is functioning. Based on this, we tailor a program that supports the child's natural developmental trajectory and the brain's ability to change (neuroplasticity).

Everything we do is adapted to the child's age, maturity and needs – always playful, safe and with the goal of promoting function and well-being.

What can we help with?

  • Strengthen balance and coordination
  • Improve focus, body control and presence
  • Reduce stress and anxiety in the nervous system
  • Support better sleep and emotional regulation
  • Increase the child's ability to process sensory impressions and respond more appropriately
  • Stimulate areas of the brain that promote learning, concentration and language development
  • Improve the interaction between the right and left hemispheres of the brain
  • Promote security, mastery and self-confidence in everyday life
  • Facilitate a more balanced development – both physically, cognitively and emotionally
