Infants and Toddlers

Babies develop rapidly during the first few months, but sometimes development happens a little unevenly. Small signals in little people can be signs that the nervous system needs a little extra support to find balance and promote development.

At Kvantumklinikken, we look at the whole child – not just symptoms – to understand how the brain and body communicate. Functional neurology is based on the understanding that the brain is malleable (neuroplastic) and that early stimulation can lay the foundation for healthy motor, cognitive and emotional development.

Developmental challenges in infants and toddlers

  • Delayed motor development (lifting head, rolling over, sitting, crawling, and walking)
  • Dislikes tummy time or getting dressed
  • Stiffness or tension (hypertonia) – or conversely, laxity and low muscle resistance (hypotonia)
  • Over- or under-sensitive to touch, sound or light
  • Frequent crying, restlessness or overstimulation
  • Skips important developmental stages, such as crawling
  • Difficulty coordinating arm, leg, and head movements
  • Challenges with grasping, holding, or manipulating objects
  • Late response to sounds or little chatter
  • Incomplete or persistent primitive reflexes
  • Difficulty regulating sleep, appetite, or emotions
  • Struggling to roll over or start walking
  • Long or short periods of wakefulness
  • Side preference at the head during supine position

Remember: These signs do not necessarily mean that the child has a diagnosis, but they may be an expression of the brain and body not working together optimally.

How can chiropractic and Functional Neurology help?

Through a thorough amnesia and examination, we map the child's movements, reflexes, sensory processing and coordination. Based on this, individual treatment is adapted, which may include:

  • Gentle chiropractic treatment to stimulate communication between the brain and body, reduce tension and promote normal movement flow
  • Sensory-motor exercises that support balance, coordination, body control and safe exploration
  • Play-based stimulation that promotes motor skills, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
  • Guidance for parents with simple exercises and activities at home that support the child's development
  • Support for the regulation of sleep and emotions, through techniques that help the nervous system find calm and stability

These measures ensure that the child gets a safe and good start in life, with a solid foundation for further development, learning and participation in play and exploration. Early support can make a big difference to the child's health and well-being, while giving parents security, peace of mind and tools in everyday life.
